Fela begins learning the piano, encouraged by his father, who believes studying music is an essential part of a good education. Fela’s mother becomes the inaugural president of the Abeokuta Women’s Union (AWU) and begins a lengthy, but ultimately successful, campaign to improve the trading rights of market women in Abeokuta.
