Fela resumes touring in Nigeria but makes no overseas appearances. US jazz-funk star Roy Ayers and his band join Fela and Afrika 70 on a national tour and record a collaborative album, Music of Many Colours. The regime persuades the Decca label to cut its ties with Fela. His Nigerian releases from now on will be mainly on his own independent labels Kalakuta and Lagos International. Undeterred by the state-sponsored violence unleashed on him since 1974, Fela releases one of his most confrontational albums ever, Authority Stealing.
