Fela and Egypt 80 spend most of the year performing at the Shrine, but in May, Fela is invited to a conference held in London by Global Coooperation For A Better World, who name him Africa’s Ambassador of Cooperation and Goodwill.

In Nigeria, student-led protests are held against government corruption. In Fela’s hometown, Abeokuta, a planned concert by Fela and Egypt 80 is cancelled after soldiers surround Asero Stadium and threaten to shoot anyone attempting to enter.
